Precast arch bridge, weir and bored piling
Scope
Davbridge Constructions was engaged by Shadforth Civil to build a precast Bebo arch bridge with an entry weir for the Pacific View Estate at Worongary on the Gold Coast. The project involved building a single 12.5 m span precast concrete arch with spandrels and four quadrant wingwall components. The foundations comprised 34 bored piles, 750 mm in diameter and no deeper than 5 m, with 91.8 m of steel liner, carrying a cast in situ concrete pile cap. The works then covered erection of 26 precast arch segments and installation of 26 precast wing wall panels, together with reinforced concrete weir walls, wing wall footings and a plinth. In total the project used about 339 m³ of in situ concrete and 44.4 t of reinforcing steel. Additionally, the project included a fishway and low flow channel through the weir. Earthworks, services and backfill were by others. The project presented challenges such as keeping the foundations shallow, at no more than 5 m, and setting the precast arch and wingwall units accurately on the cast in situ pile cap. Located in the Gold Coast hinterland in South East Queensland, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to deliver precast bridge and waterway structures for land development clients while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
