Scope

Davbridge Constructions was engaged by Jellinbah Mining to build a new bridge over the Mackenzie River for the Jellinbah North Mine extension. The project involved building a six span bridge, 105 m long and 14 m wide. The foundations comprised reinforced concrete bored piles up to 1500 mm in diameter, socketed into rock, with 452 m of sacrificial steel liner. The works then covered circular reinforced concrete columns, cast in situ headstocks and abutments, and erection of 144 PSC deck units, with about 1,539 m³ of in situ concrete and 241 t of reinforcing steel in total. Additionally, the project required an in situ reinforced concrete parapet 400 mm high with steel rails, XJS expansion joints and bridge asphalt. The project was delivered on time. The project presented challenges such as socketing large diameter piles into rock across a major river, and delivering the bridge to suit the mine's program. Located near Blackwater in Central Queensland, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to deliver major bridge infrastructure for the resources sector while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
