Scope

Davbridge Constructions was engaged by Isaac Regional Council to replace the Phillips Creek Bridge near Dysart, including demolition of the existing three span PSC deck unit bridge. The project involved building a new 105 m, five span, dual lane bridge with a cast in situ substructure and a superstructure of 80 PSC deck units, each 20.95 m long and 900 mm deep, transversely stressed and finished with steel bridge traffic rail. The foundations comprised twelve bored piles, four of 1200 mm diameter at the abutments and eight of 1500 mm diameter at the piers, bored to depths of more than 20 m. The works then covered about 590 m³ of in situ structural concrete across the piles, columns, headstocks, kerbs and relieving slabs, 223 m of steel bridge traffic rail and around 500 t of deck asphalt. Additionally, the project required a new dual lane road realignment with 1.6 km of new road approaches. This included about 95,000 m³ of earthworks excavation, of which around 33,300 m³ was hard rock, along with 8,600 m³ of unbound road pavement and 2,690 m³ of rock protection. The project presented challenges such as founding the piles more than 20 m deep, and excavating and handling a large volume of hard rock for the new road alignment. Located in the Bowen Basin of Central Queensland, near the mining town of Dysart, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to deliver a large bridge and road realignment package with its own crews and plant while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
