Steel pedestrian suspension bridge

Scope

Davbridge Constructions was engaged by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to build a new pedestrian suspension bridge below Purling Brook Falls, deep in the Springbrook rainforest. The project involved building a structural steel pedestrian suspension bridge, 26 m in total length, with a 21 m main span between its towers and 18 deck bays, sitting 7.7 m above the creek. The foundations comprised passive and active rock anchors 8 to 9 m long. There was no road access to the work site, so every material and piece of equipment was flown in by helicopter from a staging area above the falls. The steel towers were assembled first and lifted in whole, each weighing under 1 tonne. The project presented challenges such as working without vehicle access, planning every lift and delivery by air, and protecting the rainforest and creek around the site. Located in Springbrook National Park in the Gold Coast hinterland, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to deliver specialist structures in remote and environmentally sensitive locations while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
