Scope

Davbridge Constructions was engaged by Whitsunday Regional Council to design and construct the new Ted Cunningham Bridge over the Bowen River at Collinsville, including 200 m of new road approaches. The project involved building a new six span, single lane bridge, about 125 m long and 5 m wide, on a new alignment. The foundations comprised fourteen 900 mm steel lined bored piles, socketed into sandstone. The works then covered an in situ reinforced concrete substructure using about 34 t of reinforcing steel, and erection of 48 transversely stressed PSC deck units, each about 21 m long and weighing around 24 t. Additionally, the project required 200 m of new road approaches, realigned to tie the new bridge into the existing road. The project presented challenges such as founding the piles in sandstone across the Bowen River, and building the new crossing on a fresh alignment. Located in the Whitsunday region of North Queensland, near the town of Collinsville, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to design and construct bridge infrastructure for regional councils while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
