Scope
Davbridge Constructions was engaged by City of Gold Coast to replace an existing stormwater culvert on Teemangum Street, Currumbin, with a new bridge, including 140 m of tie in roadworks. The project involved building a single span, dual carriageway bridge with a pedestrian walkway, founded on shallow bored piles and a secant pile wall, with an interspaced prestressed concrete deck unit superstructure. The scope included demolition of the old culverts, removal of 130 m of old asbestos cement watermain and installation of a new 150 mm ductile iron watermain, along with gas main and stormwater works. The foundations included 142 m of 900 mm steel lined piles. The works then covered 34 precast concrete traffic barriers plus 30 m of low profile barrier, 164 m of stormwater pipe from 375 to 1350 mm diameter, 295 m of kerb and channel and 600 m² of concrete pathway. Additionally, the roadworks required 585 m³ of lightly bound subbase, 2,710 m² of sealed area and about 1,087 t of asphalt across the road and bridge deck, together with road furniture. The earthworks design was by others. The project presented challenges such as building the bridge and secant pile wall within a tight urban road corridor, and replacing water, gas and stormwater services as part of the works. Located in Currumbin on the southern Gold Coast, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to deliver a bridge and road package in a busy urban setting while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
