Scope
Davbridge Constructions was engaged by City of Moreton Bay to build the new White Patch Esplanade Bridge at Banksia Beach on Bribie Island, together with upgraded road approaches. The project involved building a new two lane, single span prestressed concrete bridge with a pedestrian walkway, steel balustrades and services, in a very sensitive coastal marine environment. The foundations comprised eight 550 mm octagonal PSC piles driven to about 15 m, with 89.6 m of pile driven and 16 m of pile extensions. The works then covered cast in situ headstocks, erection of 17 PSC deck and kerb units, each 17.95 m long and 650 mm deep, on 34 elastomeric bearings, and about 95 m³ of in situ concrete in the headstocks, deck, kerbs and relieving slab, reinforced with 15.2 t of steel. Additionally, the project required about 9,500 m² of clearing, 3,225 m³ of road embankment, 1,102 m³ of road pavement and 445 m³ of rock protection for the new dual lane approaches, which were built in stages under live traffic. The project presented challenges such as protecting a sensitive coastal and marine environment while working beside the water, and keeping residents and visitors moving through the works. Located on Bribie Island in South East Queensland, this project demonstrated Davbridge Constructions' ability to deliver bridge and road works in a sensitive coastal setting while maintaining environmental, community and safety standards.
